The 2003 Heart of Virginia festival marked the 25th anniversary of the festival and there were plenty of special touches to celebrate 25 years of bringing art, crafts, music, culture, and much more to Farmville. The day kicked off at the Downtown Stage where 2003 Chairman, Chris Brochon presented the first of a limited edition print by Eldridge Bagley, specially commissioned for the 25th anniversary, to Town Manager Gerry Spates in recognition of the invaluable contribution by the Town of Farmville to the festival. The Art Show and the Craft show continue to attract a wide variety of items to browse and are as popular as ever with visitors to the festival. This was the second year that Bicentennial Stage featured young local bands and there was some awesome talent to see there throughout the day. The Children's festival saw the welcome return of Cody and BJ and Ocean Encounters. As per usual there was a wonderful Art Workshop for children and many organizations had educational exhibits and other fun activities for the younger festival visitors. Thankfully Saturday night was not completely rained out this year. Last year the rain came down and the bands played on despite a minuscule crowd. The fireworks had to be canceled. The rain was coming down again this year but not as bad so the bands played, a decent crowd stayed around and a fabulous fireworks display wowed everyone providing an awesome finale to the 25th year celebrations.
