The Children's Festival welcomes a wide variety of entertainment and lots of exciting educational activities on Jarman lawn. This year we are thrilled to bring back Magician Walter Glod as well as the musical duo Cody & BJ. Walter Glod's magical act promises (and delivers) entertainment with lots of giggles and amazement! This year he has added "Merlin the Magnificent Mind Reading Duck." Cody ∧ BJ's high energy audience participating musical show features their friends Roxie and Cheyenne. New this year is Ocean Encounters, an exhibit that features a selection of live marine animals (horseshoe crabs, sea stars, urchins, snails, crabs, etc.) as well as dried specimens (whale baleen, shark jaws, etc.). Cody & BJ, a husband and wife musical team, combine their love for children, the environment, and animals into lively, audience-interactive performances. All music and activities are original creations, with Cody writing, and producting the songs. They have five children of their own as well as many animals, including their two beautiful macaw parrots that accompany them. Magician Walter Glod, nationally known through appearances on TV and in National Geographic Magazine, will bringhis hilarious family entertainment to this year's Festival. He amazes audiences with live animal productions, silly gags, and even a suspension in mid-air of a child from the audience. Unique efects, one-of-a-kind apparatus, and audience involvement isthe hallmark of this magician/ventriloquist. The Children's Art Workshop10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Lancaster Lawn
Create your own homemade party hats More than silly adornments, party hats have the ability to heighten any festive occasion. Whether birthday parties, New Year's Eve, or Mardi Gras, party hats have become a symbolic tool to motivate jubilant social interaction. Children can add to the convivial atmosphere of the Heart of Virginia celebration by fashioning their own homemade party hats. Pre-cut templates will be provided for participants to design their own head topper from two simple forms: cones and bateaux. Children can then customize their creations using crepe-paper decorations, feathers, glitter, and ribbon. Come join us in celebrating and creatively expressing the glittering experience of the Heart of Virginia Festival. The Children's Art Tent is located along High Street on the Lancaster Building Lawn. This activity is free. |
