On the stage of the old State Theatre, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. with Rev. Ed Tracy of Johns Memorial Episcopal Church delivering the invocation and the Prince Edward County Middle School Chorus providing music. At 10:30 hear Josh White, Jr., acclaimed performer of several varieties of music, including folk/blues, pop, and jazz. At age 4 he became an overnight hit by performing with his legendary father, Josh White, at New York's famed "Café Society" night club. He went on to perform and record with his father for the next 17 years all over the world. Between 1949 and 1960, Josh was in five Broadway plays and one off-Broadway play. By 1961 he had already guest starred in more than 50 American television dramas. He embarked on a solo career and to date has nearly 20 albums to his credit. He has performed on the world's greatest stages of four continents, including Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, and Madison Square Garden. His musical accomplishments and social activism earned him Honorary Doctorate Degrees from the University of Maine and the University of West Florida. He was named the "Voice of the Peace Corps" and the "Voice of VISTA" by the United States government in 1980. In recent years he has done numerous children and family concerts and undertaken educational ventures on the Nickelodeon Network and at schools, churches, temples, and community centers. He will perform at 1:05 as well.
