Heart Of Virginia 10-K Run
Starting at Hampden-Sydney College at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 6
Presented for the 14th year, the 10-K race starts at 8:30 a.m. at
Hampden-Sydney College, follows the "back Hampden-Sydney road"
(Route 643) onto High Street and finishes at the Longwood First
Avenue field. Medals and trophies will be presented beginning at
10:00 a.m.
The Race is presented by Southside Community Hospital
and Southside Virginia Family YMCA. The 2000
sponsors are: White Oak Cattle Farm, Piedmont Bike Shop,
and The Carpet House/The Paint Center.

Heart of Virginia Health Fair
The first annual 2000 Heart of Virginia Health Fair is scheduled for
Saturday, May 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Health Fair tent will be
located on the corner of High Street and Griffin Boulevard.
The Health Fair includes:
- Free cholesterol and glucose screening from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. by Southside Community Hospital. (To ensure accurate results, participants are asked to fast eight hours prior to the exam.)
- Free eye-screening for all ages from 12 noon to 3 p.m. by Dr. Briggs Bauman and Dr. Daniel Kingsley.
- Free height and weight analysis by Patty Wagner, RN, Parish Nurse from Farmville United Methodist Church.
- Free spinal screening by Dr. Steve Giltz from the Back and Neck Center.
- Free smoking cessation by representatives from Smoke Free Heart of Virginia.
- Free health information and counseling by registered nurses from Piedmont Health District and SAHEC.
